The Plastic Bottle Greenhouse
It’s amazing what you can do with 1,500 plastic bottles! During the summer term, the school eco club decided to do a project that really showed people that reusing is just as important as reducing and recycling.
It’s amazing what you can do with 1,500 plastic bottles! During the summer term, the school eco club decided to do a project that really showed people that reusing is just as important as reducing and recycling. Mrs Jones had heard about a school in Scotland that had built a greenhouse out of plastic bottles and the children in eco club thought it would be a really good idea to have a go at doing one ourselves.
Collecting 1,500 bottles is harder than you’d think and it took us nearly two months to get enough. We even went on Radio Humberside to appeal for bottles and one listener alone gave us over 500!
At the end of June we started the mammoth task of cleaning and cutting the bottles as well as digging over the site. The next job was to build wooded frames and then attach rows of bottles held together with bamboo canes. We decided to use green bottles to make the door. Finally the roof went on.
It’s virtually finished now – just the inside to sort out but we hope Look North will come and film it sometime soon so look out for it on telly!
