African Steel Drums

As part of Africa Week, Year 4 were lucky to be able to spend a day learning all about African steel drums.

Year 4 on steel drumsYear 4 were really pleased to be able to spend a whole day during Africa Week learning about steel drums. The day was run by Laurence Rugg from Hull City Council. Thanks Laurence! At the end of the day the children performed a concert of what they had learned to the whole school. They not only learned how to play the steel drums but a little about the history of the instrument too, making the link with African slaves going to the West Indies and making music using oil drums. See more photos from this day (as well as photos from the whole of Africa Week) in the Photo Gallery section. *Also:* read also about the visit to the school of the Mighty Zulu Nation theatre group, also part of our Africa Week.
